![]() ![]() This was one thing I didn't expect - with the 'over ear' inserts, they easily compete with even quite good headsets. The speakers, when they were working correctly, sounded great. While it didn't cause me eye strain, thankfully, I am quite concerned what effect long-term use may have on my eyes, essentially training one eye to become dominant over the other. This meant that to read and see clearly, I would have to look just to the right side of whatever I wanted to read/interact with and then make certain that my left eye was looking through the sweet spot. In my case, even with the mechanical IPD set as narrow as possible (in software reported as 60), the sweet spot was on the outer side of each eye, and interestingly was clearer in the left eye than the right. With the 8KX, it was clear that it doesn't cater for anyone with a narrower IPD. I have an IPD of around 62 (61.6 if I'm being precise!) and with this dialled into any other headset, I see clearly through the sweet spot when looking ahead. ![]() Pimax documentation states that the unit has an IPD adjustment range of 60 - 70. I think it will bother some more than others. There is some distortion at the edges of the view, and you do sometimes feel like you are viewing the world through a fishbowl, but I stopped noticing this after a few minutes of use. Worst of all was looking down, which looked worse than my Valve Index. Looking away from the sweet spot the image degrades considerably, so looking around with your eyes in many cases isn't an option. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the sweet spot aligned with my eyes. There is a problem with attaining clarity, and the IPD setting (more on that later) but if you can dial it in, I imagine that the results would be astounding. There is some clarity loss with the large FOV mode, but to be honest in normal mode it was still ample and delivers a nice upgrade on all other headsets.Ĭlarity is very nice, and when using native resolution nearly all shimmers (inside the cockpit) are eliminated leaving a nice clear view of gauges and dials without distraction. The FOV is remarkable, there really isn't anything else on the market right now that compares. The tightener didn't remain in place and occasionally it pops out of the place you tightened it to, which can cause quite the startle! The included KDMAX headphones fit nicely and just on the ears in my case. On top of that, to stop it wobbling, it required tightening almost as much as possible, which put a lot of pressure on my face. I found it very difficult to adjust it to a position that fit my head correctly, and once I did it didn't seem to stay put well enough. It's reasonably well built, but the head strap tightener is dreadful. I purchased my 8KX as an upgrade to my Valve Index, which has served me well for the last year or so. Wishing I'd seen similar, I thought I would relate my experience with the Pimax 8KX here - as an aid to anyone considering purchasing one. ![]()
